Rice or ‘bai’ (in phonetic Khmer) is the staple diet of most Cambodians, and many eat it for all of their meals. In fact one of the direct translations of a call to breakfast, lunch or dinner is ‘Eat Rice’. So what better, or more obvious material could Cambodians use to sew with, than the bags that this rice comes in? Rice bags are ideal for sewing.
